Innovation runs deep in Mark's family history. On his father's side, the Randolph family were highly successful manufacturers and prolific inventors of razor blades, including the Bonded Edge. Their legacy includes the bonded edge, garden tools, aviation fire-suppression systems used on aircrafts worldwide, aviation pyrotechnic devices, match equipment, ceremonial swords, and a wide range of other household products.
03 · The Story
Mark Dyer descends from the Randolph family, prolific inventors credited with advances in razor-blade technology and aviation fire-suppression systems used on aircraft the world over. Invention, it turns out, runs in the blood.
Begins as an estate agent in West London and quickly becomes a leading salesman.
Founds his own agency, growing it to two London locations within three years.
Launches property investment companies and a series of residential and investment funds.
Establishes The Hacking Trust PLC alongside a circle of private investors.
Grows the Trust through acquisitions spanning more than seventy businesses and £750 million in assets.
04 · The Hacking Trust
Founded in 1997, The Hacking Trust PLC is the vehicle through which much of Mark Dyer's investing has flowed. Backed by private investors, the Trust has grown by acquiring and nurturing trading businesses rather than simply trading paper.
Over time it accumulated more than £750 million in assets across some seventy businesses, among them Beal & Sons Ltd, established in 1856 and brought under the Mark Dyer Hacking Trust umbrella.
Inventor
Maker by instinct. Mark Dyer invented Stingblade, a jellyfish-sting protection device moulded from recycled fishing nets, after one too many encounters in the water turned a nuisance into a design problem worth solving.
Innovator
From property structures to consumer products, Mark Dyer keeps returning to the same question: how could this be better made? It is the through-line connecting four decades of real estate with a restless habit of building new things.
